CFSI Offers New Fund-raising Opportunity

The Congressional Fire Services Institute is introducing a new fund-raising opportunity for fire departments. In partnership with a company that produces flameless candles, CFSI is selling fire-safe flameless candles to fire departments for fund-raising projects. The candles are made of wax, but are battery-operated and have a flickering light to simulate a burning candle, but without the danger of a flame.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, each year approximately 23,600 residential fires are caused by improper use of candles. Those fires result in 1,525 civilian injuries and 165 deaths. Estimated property loss from fires caused by candles is $390 million.

For more information about the initiative, contact Tom Lewis or Alex Bryant at the CFSI. Call 202-371-1277, or visit the CSFI Web site.
