CFSI Committee Adopts Fire Service Organization Resolutions
At the Congressional Fire Services Institute National Advisory Committee meeting on Oct. 26, three resolutions proposed by the more than 40 trade groups, issue organizations and professional associations that make up the committee were adopted.
The first resolution states that the NAC supports www.firegrantdata.com, an online tool to educate people about the importance of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant program. Once fully operational, the site will contain background information about the grant programs, along with success stories and statistics broken down by state and Congressional district.
The NAC also adopted a resolution calling on CFSI to “promote and champion fire service-based EMS within the fire service, Congress, the Administration, and to the American people.” The fire service is the single largest provider of EMS in the country.
Finally, the NAC adopted a resolution stating that CFSI support the Volunteer Responder Incentive Protection Act (H.R. 1405/S. 1906), which would make it clear that financial incentives offered to volunteers by state or local units of government cannot be taxed by the federal government.
