DHS Releases 10th Round of AFG Awards, 11th Round of SAFER Grants

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has released the 10th round of Assistance to Firefighters Grant program awards for FY '06, naming 227 departments and districts throughout the United States as recipients. The grants total more than $27.1 million.

The largest grants announced were for the Greencastle (Ind.) Fire Department, $977,007, and the Tehama County (Calif.) Fire Department, $777,496. The Orono (Maine) Fire Department and Sherburne (N.Y.) Fire Department each will receive grants of $498,750. A complete list of FY '06 AFG recipients is available at www.firegrantsupport.com.

DHS also announced the 11th round of FY '06 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grants. Three agencies were named recipients of awards totaling nearly $5.2 million. The Rio Rancho (N.M) Department of Public Safety will receive $2,484,000, Clarksville (Tenn.) Fire Rescue will receive $1,552,500 and Guntersville (Ala.) Fire & Rescue will receive $1,139,510.
