DHS Releases 7th Round of AFG Awards, 8th Round of SAFER Grants

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has released the seventh round of Assistance to Firefighters Grant program awards for FY 06, naming 127 departments and districts throughout the United States as recipients. The grants total $10.6 million

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has released the seventh round of Assistance to Firefighters Grant program awards for FY 06, naming 127 departments and districts throughout the United States as recipients. The grants total nearly $10.6 million.

The largest grants announced were for the Saltlick Township (Indian Heaad, ,Pa.) Volunteer Fire Department, $427,500; City of Redmond (Ore.) Fire and Rescue, $371,674; and City of Blakely (Calif.) Fire Department, $312,930. A complete list of FY 06 AFG recipients is available at www.firegrantsupport.com.

DHS also announced the eighth round of FY 06 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grants. Five agencies were named recipients of awards totaling $1,2 million. Those receiving awards were the New Rochelle (N.Y.) Fire Department, $828,000; Bloomfield (N.J.) Fire Department, $329,500; Midland (Ark.) Fire Department, $40,123; East Greenbrush Fire District #3 (Rensselaer, N.Y.), $19,875; and Iowa Falls (Iowa) Fire Department, $19,000.
