DHS Announces 6th Round of AFG Awards, 7th Round of SAFER Grants
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced the sixth round of Assistance to Firefighters Grant program awards for FY 06, naming 200 departments and districts throughout the United States as recipients. The grants total nearly $24 million.
The largest grants announced were for the Lake Elmo (Minn.) Fire Department, $1,000,000; Waco (N.C.) Community Volunteer Fire Department, $989,020; Pflugerville (Texas) Fire Department, $861,115; San Bernardino County (Calif.) Consolidated Fire District, $740,702; and Grant County (Wash.) DHS also announced the seventh round of FY 06 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grants. Six agencies were named recipients of awards totaling $8 million. All the grants were for amounts of more than $1 million. Recipients of the awards were the City of Fairfax (Va.) Fire Department, $1,196,000; City of Hialeah (Fla.) Fire Department, $1,863,000; Hernando County (Fla.) Fire Rescue District, $1,242,000; Montgomery County (Md.) Fire and Rescue Service, $1,242,000; Unified Fire Authority of Greater Salt Lake (Utah), $1,449,000; and Warner Robins (Ga.) Fire Department, $1,035,000.
