Wis. Chief Dies in Accident

Pulaski (Wis.) Tri-County Fire Chief Frank Wichlacz died July 23 after an out-of-control pickup pinned him between a garage door and a parked water tanker at the station.

Pulaski (Wis.) Tri-County Fire Chief Frank Wichlacz died July 23 after an out-of-control pickup pinned him between a garage door and a parked water tanker at the station. According to the Associated Press, a firefighter was moving a GMC pickup that was blocking a bay door where one of the department's tankers needed to be parked. While moving the pickup, it accelerated out of control when the chief happened to be walking between the bay door and parked tanker inside the station.

Wichlacz has been a member of the Tri-County Fire Department since July 1957 and chief since December 1985. He was 76 years old.
