Virginia, Illinois Get New Fire Chiefs

Kevin McGee was sworn in as chief of the Prince William County (Va.) Department of Fire and Rescue. And in Pontiac, Ill., John Cummins was selected out of more than 50 applicants to lead that city’s fire department.

After serving as acting chief for the past four months, Kevin McGee was sworn in as chief of the Prince William County (Va.) Department of Fire and Rescue. He replaces Mary Beth Michos, who retired after serving as chief for more than 12 years.

McGee has been on the department for 27 years and has spent the past 10 years as assistant chief, the Gainesville Times reports. McGee holds degrees in fire science, business administration and public administration from several programs including Harvard University and the National Fire Academy. He also is a member of the Homeland Security Information Network Advisory Committee.

In Pontiac, Ill., John Cummins was selected out of more than 50 applicants to lead that city’s fire department. Cummins was chief in Stone Park, a Chicago suburb, since 2004, according to the Pontiac Daily Leader.

Cummins will replace Chief Dennis McDugle who is retiring. McDugle joined the Pontiac Fire Department in 1977 and became chief in 2001, the paper said.
