Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn appointed Larry Matkaitis as the state’s fire marshal.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn appointed Larry Matkaitis as the state’s fire marshal. Matkaitis currently serves as the northern regional administrator in the Office of State Fire Marshal, a position he’s held since 2005 after spending more than 30 years in the Chicago Fire Department, where he rose from paramedic to assistant deputy fire commissioner for emergency medical operations. The office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal works with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System and local fire departments to respond to manmade and natural emergencies.
