10th round of grants totals more than $35M

FEMA and the USFA have announced the 10th round of 2002 Assistance to Firefighter Grant awards for 445 fire departments. The grants total more than $35 million in this round.

The USFA anticipates being able to fund 5,500 departments in FY 2002. From the 2002 funding level of $360 million, $270 million has already been awarded to more than 4,000 fire departments.

The funds will be used to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, EMS programs and fire prevention and safety programs. A list of all recipients is posted on the USFA Web site at www.usfa.fema.gov/grants.
