Rosenbauer Wildland Engines Go West

CAL FIRE, the new organization formerly known as the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, has joined with the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services to order 69 brush pumpers from Rosenbauer America.

The new units will be built on International 7400 4x4 chassis equipped with UPF 500-gallon poly water tanks, Foam Pro Class A foam systems, PTO-driven Darley JMP 500gpm main pumps and diesel engine-driven Darley 1½AGE 26BSD auxiliary pumps. The two-pump configuration is part of a move away from the single hydraulically driven pumps that CAL FIRE used for years.

CAL FIRE often is considered to be the largest fire department in the United States. It operates over 1,300 fire and rescue apparatus from more than 800 stations to protect 31 million acres of land, ranging from open wildland to populated cities and towns throughout the state. In a typical year, it makes more than 5,600 wildland fire responses and over 300,000 other responses, including emergency medical service calls and rescues.

The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services has more than 100 fire apparatus on loan to departments in the state. Departments that receive OES apparatus must respond with them when called for fires, floods, earthquakes and other large-scale emergencies anywhere in California. The departments may also use the apparatus within their own jurisdictions for second-alarm or greater incidents.
