The 2006 edition of NFPA 1071, Emergency Vehicle Technician Professional Qualifications, is now available.
Among the latest changes, the new edition includes skill and performance standards for Emergency Vehicle Technician III level personnel. This level is defined as a first-level supervisor or leadman responsible for the performance, scheduling, quality control and documentation of the work of EVT I and EVT II personnel.
Annex B to the new standard contains recommendations on how departments might determine a person's qualifications. These include formal schooling, training, practical experience and several certification programs such as EVTCC and ASE.
To order the new standard, call 800-344-3555 or go to the NFPA Web site.
