Los Angeles City Fire Department is evaluating a new command vehicle for its battalion chiefs. The vehicle features a compact rescue-style body that provides significantly more access and storage space than a traditional SUV.
Master Body Works of South Gate, Calif., built the new unit on a Ford F-450 4x4 chassis. The left-hand side of the body has a full-length command area equipped with computers and radio equipment. An awning may be deployed to provide shade or rain protection. The rear compartment carries a Honda 2kw generator and other equipment. A compartment on the right-hand side holds SCBA mounted on an extendible tray to allow easy donning.
Other features include an extended cab, full warning lights on all sides and an exhaust outlet located at the right rear of the vehicle away from the command area.
