Ferrara Completes 2007 Cummins Installation
Cummins has approved Ferrara's installation of 2007 EPA-certified ISM engines up to 500hp in the new Inferno chassis. The new configuration was displayed at Fire Rescue International in Dallas.
The new Inferno cab is wider, but maintains the same overall travel width as the previous model. The driver and officer have the same hip and shoulder room, while the rear occupants have additional space. The engine tunnel remains low to keep the cab open for visual communication between crew members. Handling and maneuverability were not affected by the changes, according to Ferrara.
Cooling system tests on the new Inferno were so successful that Ferrara was able to certify the model for operation in ambient temperatures up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit while still passing the water and charge air temperature requirements by a wide margin.
