Sherry Wilde, who has been the backbone of the Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission since its inception, received the James A. Bland Memorial Award from the Texas and Oklahoma associations of emergency vehicle technicians.
The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the professional development of emergency vehicle technicians, was announced at the Southwest EVT Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 1. Wilde was chosen for her tireless work with the EVTCC in conducting day-to-day operations and assisting technicians who are seeking certifications. Wilde also has furthered her personal development by obtaining an associate’s degree in accounting and bookkeeping, which she uses to benefit both the EVTCC and her husband's emergency vehicle repair business.
The award was established in remembrance of the Houston Fire Department’s James A. Bland, who was a past president and charter member of the Texas Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians. Bland was a strong supporter of ongoing education and development of EVTs during his career and retirement.
