Cummins recently discussed some of the engine changes customers can expect next year. One of the biggest items is the planned availability of a new ISB model with ratings up to 325hp.

The new Cummins ISB will have a 6.7-liter block instead of the current 5.9-liter displacement. Ratings will go up to 325hp and 750 foot-pounds of peak torque for customers who want a small, lightweight engine with bigger performance. The new ISB will use the same type of exhaust gas recirculation emission reduction system found on the current ISB. The 2007 ISC and ISL engines will also use this system.

Other changes to the Cummins medium-duty engine line include a bigger oil pan, a new filter to clean crankcase emissions, optional electronic oil level sensors and an optional compression brake for the ISC.

The Cummins heavy-duty ISX and ISM engines are expected to have several new components, but will not have any reductions in power ratings.

Cummins expects to have 2007 engines available in the fourth quarter of 2006 and will certify about 1,000 distributors and dealers for warranty work by the first quarter of 2007.
