Free Slides Offered as Safety Reminders
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the U.S. Fire Administration are distributing six PowerPoint slides and encouraging departments nationwide to use them in training and daily meetings to remind firefighters of simple safety measures that may save their lives.
The slides were created as part of the NFFF/USFA Life-Safety Initiative, begun this year to reduce firefighter line-of-duty deaths by 25% by the year 2009 and by 50% by 2014.
Designed to target the primary causes of preventable firefighter fatalities, the slides contain these messages that focus on the importance of training, physical fitness and rehab; the need to drive safely while wearing seat-belts and obeying traffic signals; on-scene requirements such as size-up, accountability, communications and air supply; and a reminder to get back to basics.
Departments with Adobe Acrobat Reader can download the file from the NFFF Web site at www.firehero.org/s1/images/FFLSI-Presentation.pdf. You can also receive copies by e-mailing the NFFF at firehero@erols.org or by calling 301-447-1365.
