We have introduced polished concrete floors throughout the stations, with exception of the restrooms, which are still tile. We have eliminated the use of resilient flooring and transition strips, which always seem to be a problem. There are no adhesives and VOC’s to deal with. The materials are local. There is also very little maintenance on these floors. No waxing, buffing or repairing of material coming loose. The floor requires only dry mopping and occasional wet mopping for a spill. The department now has the options to put individual rugs down, where they want them, replacing to update colors/textures when they want to.
