Green Tip: Use Light Sensors

Light sensors taht monitor movement can help a fire station go green

Install light sensors that monitor whether or not someone is in the room so that lights turn off automatically when room is not in use. More sophisticated light monitors also can be installed that analyze the amount of daylight in a room and turn on or off accordingly.

  • Increase the insulation in the building, especially in the attic.
  • Install insulated blankets around water heaters.
  • Install high-output hand dryers in restrooms in lieu of paper towels.
  • Replace all incandescent light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs.
