From NeighborhoodNewspapers.com: Union City, Ga., will hold a dedication ceremony for its newest solar-powered fire station next month. Station No. 3, will house the department’s new rescue, engine, ladder and command vehicle.
Station No. 3 is the city’s second solar-powered station. The other, Station No. 1, was built five years ago.
Station 1 is larger than the non-solar Station 2 by more than 3,000 square feet, but its power bill is significantly less. Station 2 normally ranges from $600 to $800 a month, while Station 1 ranges from $200 to $300.
Those savings alone helped the department in its decision to move forward with plans to build Station 3, which is 9,200 square feet.
The department has been able to sell power back to Georgia Power, which then offsets the cost.
