The application period for the FY 2012 Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grants closes Friday, January 18. The FP&S grants are part of Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. FP&S funding supports projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards. Departments may apply for two activity areas: fire prevention and safety, and research and development. Eligible activities for fire prevention and safety may include general education and awareness programs; fire and arson investigation; code enforcement and awareness; national, state, or regional programs and studies; smoke alarm or sprinkler awareness project; wildland fire prevention; juvenile fire-setter projects; and others. The research and development category includes projects designed to reduce firefighter fatalities and injuries and improve firefighter safety, health, and wellness.
