FCC auditing two-way fire, EMS radio systems
The Federal Communications Commission’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau currently is conducting an audit of the construction and operational status of all of the Private Land Mobile Radio, including public safety stations licensed on frequencies below 512MHz, that are subject to frequency coordination and rule-based construction and operational requirements. The purpose of the audit is to update and increase the accuracy of an FCC database.
All departments with radio communications systems operating on a frequency or frequencies below 512MHz should have received an audit letter from the FCC. Departments should check their FCC license or consult a radio technician for frequency information.
It’s important that departments respond to the audit letter because failure to respond within the specified time frame may be grounds for administrative action such as a forfeiture or license cancellation.
Departments can verify whether their stations are included in the commission’s audit by consulting the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau Web site database at wireless.fcc.gov/plmrs/audit.html
The database also will indicate whether or not the FCC has received your response. If the database indicates that a letter has been sent, but you have not received one you should call 888-225-5322 and select option 2.
