In today’s economic climate, few have the luxury of taking time off work to attend classes at a university. Yet those same classes are needed to advance in any career. It’s a Catch 22, said Anthony Mangeri, a volunteer firefighter, EMT and assistant professor at American Military University.
For firefighters, Mangeri said continued education is important to help them move through the ranks and into chiefs’ positions, which mostly consist of managerial and political duties. But leaving shift or taking time away from family isn’t an option. He discusses how AMU provides the solution, by offering courses that students can complete at their convenience.
