RAE Systems recently released the ProRAE Guardian, a real-time, wireless safety software that delivers data on toxic and flammable gases, chemical warfare agents, radiation, and responders’ physiological condition and location in one application, said Praveen Sharma, the company’s global software product manager.
“The ProRAE Guardian helps reduce incident response times and enhance safety in a broad range of applications, including hazmat and emergency response, CBRNE agent detection (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive), homeland security, police, bomb disposal, public venue protection and fire service,” Sharma said.
Specifically, the ProRAE displays device status, alarm and sensor reading information — all integrated on a single map display. Sharma said the software lets first responders set up a rapidly deployable, secure wireless threat detection system that encompasses a broad range of RAE Systems’ and approved third-party personal, survey and area monitors to detect and track toxic industrial chemicals, flammable gases, chemical warfare agents (CWA), radiation, GPS-based location information and physiological condition of responders. Such wireless functionality provides continuous monitoring of toxic and combustible gases, which “reduces radio chatter and allows incident commanders to focus resources where they’re most appropriate,” he said.
In addition, Sharma said situational data obtained by multiple responder teams can be shared securely via the Internet to aid mission control, simplify the coordination of joint operations and allow remote experts to be added to the operation in real time.
“Organizations are looking for systems and solutions to enhance safety in hazardous situations and enable faster response times,” he said. “ProRAE Guardian answers this demand and fulfills a critical need for real-time data access and sharing.”
Wireless gas and radiation monitors should be cleaned, tested and calibrated after use in a fireground, Sharma added.
