Pa. City Loses 'Public-Safety Conscience' with Chief's Retirement

Although most people will remember him for his acts as fire chief, outgoing Fire Chief John Senft should also be remembered for keeping York City safe in other ways, said state Rep. Eugene DePasquale.

From the York Dispatch: Although most people will remember him for his acts as fire chief, outgoing Fire Chief John Senft should also be remembered for keeping York City safe in other ways, said state Rep. Eugene DePasquale.

DePasquale, who is a former York City economic development director, was one of many people to express gratitude for Senft at York City's First Annual Fire Department Awards Ceremony Friday.

The retirement of Senft, who had served as the city's fire chief since 2000, was made official at the ceremony. He was with the department for nearly 37 years.
