Pa. Fire Department Paging System Failure Leaves Fire Chiefs Asking Why

Fire chiefs around York County, Pa., were left scrambling Wednesday when the 911 center's paging system stopped working for 93 minutes.

From the York Dispatch: Fire chiefs around York County, Pa., were left scrambling Wednesday when the 911 center's paging system stopped working for 93 minutes.

The system was rendered inoperable for scheduled maintenance. A backup system designed to automatically recognize the failure and take over also failed.

The 911 center used its backup Everbridge phone-notification system to alert emergency responders of the paging system's failure, but at least one area chief said he didn't receive that backup notification.
