Pa. Chief, Wife Charged with Theft, Insurance Fraud

Uniontown (Pa.) Fire Chief Myron Nypaver and his wife, Lisa, have been charged with theft and insurance fraud after the chief allegedly collected about $20,000 in unemployment compensation last year after he returned from a nearly four-month furlough.

From the Times Leader: Uniontown (Pa.) Fire Chief Myron Nypaver and his wife, Lisa, have been charged with theft and insurance fraud after the chief allegedly collected about $20,000 in unemployment compensation last year after he returned from a nearly four-month furlough.

Nypaver was one of seven firefighters furloughed in December 2009 due to budget problems, but he returned to work in March. Despite that, Fayette County prosecutors say Nypaver continued to collect unemployment based on a claim his wife filed from her computer. The city about 40 miles south of Pittsburgh was paying Nypaver about $1,086 a week while he continued to collect the unemployment.
