Scottsdale Starts Construction on 2 New Stations

From AZCentral.com: As construction continues on Scottsdale's two newest fire stations, residents near each of them may notice how they blend in with the two areas.

The Cactus Acres and Eldorado Park fire stations are designed to fit in with their neighborhood surroundings, said former Deputy Fire Chief Rich Upham, who has been in charge of resource management. Upham, who left last week to become fire chief for the Heber-Overgaard Fire District, spoke to TheRepublic about the progress of the two stations prior to his departure.

The Cactus Acres fire station, 9598 E. Cactus Road, is in a neighborhood surrounded by homes with numerous horse properties. As a result, the design has more of a Western look. Also, because a horse trail passes by the station, the design limits outdoor lighting and outdoor sounds, Upham said.

The Eldorado Park fire station will replace an existing station. Its design takes into account its close proximity to downtown Scottsdale, well-established neighborhoods and a city park.
