Philly Begins Rolling Brownouts

To reduce a $3.8 million budget deficit, the Philadelphia Fire Department will implement rolling brownouts that will close three fire companies each shift around the city.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer: To reduce a $3.8 million budget deficit, the Philadelphia Fire Department will implement rolling brownouts that will close three fire companies each shift around the city.

The changes will take effect next Monday, and are intended to reduce overtime costs and avoid shuttering firehouses or laying off firefighters, according to the deputy mayor for public safety, said at a news conference Monday evening.
