The delegation also will have the opportunity to learn strategies and tactics used during live-burn evolutions at the Union Fire District (UFD) Training Ground in R.I.

A delegation of fire-service leaders from the Japan Firefighters Association will meet with board members and staff from the National Volunteer Fire Council on Oct. 16. The delegation also will have the opportunity to learn strategies and tactics used during live-burn evolutions at the Union Fire District (UFD) Training Ground in R.I.

NVFC board members will meet with the representatives from the Japan Firefighters Association to discuss issues of mutual interest and further the lines of communication between the fire services of the two nations. Topics will include health and safety, junior firefighting, and legislative issues affecting the fire service in the United States.

Chief Robert Perry and Deputy Chief Quinn of the UFD will utilize the department’s training facility to demonstrate fire ground tactics and escort the delegation through live fire training exercises. The delegation includes Chief Officers, Inspectors, and members of the Japan Firefighters Association board of directors.

In addition to visiting Rhode Island and Connecticut, the Japanese delegation is sharing and exchanging ideas with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), Mineola Volunteer Fire Department in Long Island, Boston and San Francisco fire departments, and CAL FIRE.
