A federal Energy Efficiency Grant is covering more than $1.4 million for the project in Madison, Ala.

From WAFF: Work will soon begin on a new fire station in the city of Madison, Ala. The building plan is LEED-certified, and the station will use 30% less water and energy and will even produce some of its own energy.

Right now the firefighters are working out of a temporary station because toxic mold was discovered in their old building.

The new station is set to be finished in January. A federal Energy Efficiency Grant is covering more than $1.4 million for the project. The city of Madison will pay the remaining $1.2-million.
