From WFMY: After discovering a local homeless shelter had not been inspected in 10 years, the Lexington (N.C.) Fire Department started working to figure out whether there are other buildings that have been under-inspected.
The city of Lexington has 1,400 buildings that, by law have to be inspected by the fire department. So far this year, the department has inspected 328 buildings. However, the Chief Phillip Hartley said he wasn't sure how many of them had to be inspected annually.
Hartley said the courthouse, the high school and the fire department all have been inspected regularly. Lexington Memorial Hospital was inspected in May, but that was its first recorded inspection since 2007.
The fire department has hired a fire marshal to keep track of inspection records and conduct the inspections, beginning July 25. Read the entire article here.
