Private-Ambulance Proposal Worries Union

Private-Ambulance Proposal Worries Union

From the South Coast Today: The firefighters union in Lakeville, Mass., fears the town is looking to return to an all-call fire department after it became known that the town is contemplating privatizing its ambulance.

Deputy Chief David Goodfellow explained that an all-call department would be difficult at this time. Town demographics have changed in the past 25 years and the personnel aren't there to answer the calls on weekdays.

The ambulance service brings in about $300,000 in revenue to the town, and the fire department has an overall budget of almost $900,000, most in salaries, but also including equipment, maintenance and liability insurance.
