The National Fire Protection Association elected Harold A. Schaitberger, general president of the International Association of Fire Fighters, to its board of directors.

Appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009, Schaitberger currently serves on the Department of Homeland Security Advisory Board to Secretary Janet Napolitano.

He serves on the AFL-CIO Executive Committee and has been a vice president of the AFL-CIO Executive Council since 2000. He is chair of the Board of Directors of the IAFF Foundation and serves as a vice president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America. He also served on the NFPA Professional Qualifications and Standards Committee in the 1970s.
