Escondido Moves Forward with Plans to Remodel, Expand Moldy Fire Station

The Escondido (Calif.) Fire Department is moving ahead with remodeling and expansion plans for Station No. 4, which has been closed since May 2010 because of mold.

From Sign On San Diego: The Escondido (Calif.) Fire Department is moving ahead with remodeling and expansion plans for Station No. 4, which has been closed since May 2010 because of mold.

The city council unanimously authorized a contract Wednesday night finalizing payment and other details with Jeff Katz Architecture. A financing plan, schematic design and cost estimate for the $2.4 million project was approved in March.

The 2,600-square-foot station is the city’s oldest and the only one lacking a coed dorm. The remodeled station will be 8,100 square feet with five individual dorms and bathrooms, and three apparatus bays, up from two.
