N.Y. County Comptroller Urges FD Mergers — And Vols are Listening
From the Buffalo News: With dwindling numbers, increasing demands, and a worsening economy that is prompting a hard look at every cent they spend, volunteer departments in Erie County, N.Y., are reexamining merger ideas suggested by the county comptroller.
The comptroller’s report found total costs for the county’s 93 volunteer fire companies rising fast — up 36% from 2000 alone.
