N.Y. Village Reinstates Fire Department

Village officials decided late Monday night to revoke a state of emergency that had been in place for several weeks due to concerns about response time for the Elbridge Fire Department.

The decision effectively reinstates the department as the primary response agency for Elbridge, and cancels a public hearing and vote on whether to abolish the department.

Interim Chief Bob Chuff, who is also the department’s president, said the department worked hard to get the village board all the information needed before determining whether to abolish or reinstate the department.

That information included call logs that revealed that a majority of the calls where trucks did not leave the station for an emergency call, it was because the department was called off. Many of those incidents involved false fire alarms or accidents that did not involve injuries. Read the entire article here.
