Ohio Voters Opt for Fire Tax

The permanent 0.3% income tax in Delaware, Ohio, will raise $3 million a year to pay for a new fire station and 18 firefighters to staff it.

From the Columbus Dispatch: An income-tax increase in Delaware, Ohio, to pay for new fire stations, additional firefighters and new equipment passed by a narrow margin.

The measure to raise income tax 0.3% for the city's fire department won by 162 votes. The permanent tax will raise $3 million a year to pay for a new fire station on the city's northwest side, and possibly another new fire station on the southeast side. It also will pay for 18 new firefighters to staff the northwest side station.

With the tax's passage and the staffing it will provide, firefighters will be able to meet 6-minute response-time standard 79% of the time. Read the entire article.
