Charlottesville Plans for First New Fire Station in Decades

The Charlottesville (Va.) Fire Department's new $15 million, LEED-certified Fontaine Fire Station is slated to begin in the fall. When completed, it will be Charlottesville’s first new fire station in more than 50 years.

From the Daily Progress: The Charlottesville (Va.) Fire Department's new $15 million, LEED-certified Fontaine Fire Station is slated to begin in the fall. When completed, it will be Charlottesville’s first new fire station in more than 50 years.

The 3-story fire station will include several in-building training features, underground parking spaces and a non-traditional fire station pole that will allow firefighters to get from the third to first floors in seconds.

The new station also will be LEED-certified, with conservation features that include a rainwater harvesting system, a geothermal well system and lighting systems such as solar tubes, LED lights and occupancy and vacancy sensors.
