Mich. Emergency Financial Manager Advocates Eliminating Department

The local union is looking into filing an unfair labor practice against the city for violating the Public Employment Relations Act if the plan goes into effect.

From WSBT: Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm is standing by a plan to balance Benton Harbor's budget and ultimately get rid of the fire department, saying the city will just get its fire services elsewhere.

An emergency financial manager appointed by Granholm proposed the controversial plan to eliminate the city's fire department, and instead share services with St. Joseph and Benton Township.

The local union is looking into filing an unfair labor practice against the city for violating the Public Employment Relations Act if the plan goes into effect.
