From the St. Cloud Times: In a move meant to save money, the Becker fire chief position has changed from full time to a paid, on-call position.

Becker City Administrator Greg Pruszinske said the fire chief position was made full time in 2008 in hopes of saving money. With a full-time position, the fire board hoped it would save money on training, budget preparation and save on wages to other paid, on-call firefighters. That savings didn’t happen, so the board decided to make the position paid on call, he said.

The Becker fire chief is Chad Steffens. Pruszinske said if Steffens decides to step down, the city will have a formal search for a new chief. Read the entire article here.
