Bus Wrap Puts Fire Safety on the Road

The Greensboro (N.C.) Fire Department, in collaboration with the Greensboro Transit Authority, unveiled a GTA bus on May 2 as part of a new initiative aimed at educating residents on fire safety and prevention. The plastic coating on the bus is printed with colorful safety messages, numbers to call for free smoke detector installations and information explaining what residents can do to prevent fires.

The Greensboro (N.C.) Fire Department, in collaboration with the Greensboro Transit Authority, unveiled a “wrapped” GTA bus on May 2 as part of a new initiative aimed at educating residents on fire safety and prevention.

The plastic coating on the bus is printed with colorful safety messages, numbers to call for free smoke detector installations and information explaining what residents can do to prevent fires. The coating has a self-adhesive backing, can be applied to buses like wallpaper and be removed without damaging the original bus colors.

The vehicle's interior will include seasonal fire-safety messages in English and Spanish.

The wrapped bus will primarily serve the southeast area of Greensboro, where the highest number of fires occur, but it also will appear throughout the city. A Fire Prevention Grant from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program provided funding for the project.
