More than 50 fire chiefs from Massachusetts gathered in front of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., on National Fire & Emergency Services Day, sponsored by the Congressional Fire Services Institute on May 5. The chiefs also came to town to back new national cigarette fire safety legislation introduced by Reps. Edward Markey (D.-Mass.) and Peter King (R.-N.Y.)
H.R. 4155, inspired by cigarette fire safety standards passed in Canada and New York, would require manufacturers to make self-extinguishing cigarettes.
