Stankus Named EVT of the Year

Mike Stankus of King County (Wash.) Fire District 44 was named FIRE CHIEF magazine’s In Service 2007 EVT of the Year. The award was announced at Fire-Rescue International in August.

Stankus credits his background in a variety of industries for making him a jack-of-all-trades who has learned to deal with many different components and systems. He is currently the top EVT in his department and is nearly halfway to his goal of attaining all of the EVT certifications offered.

When asked what was the most important thing an EVT should do, Stankus replied “Gain as much schooling and knowledge as you can.… In this industry the systems and equipment are changing so quickly that if you don’t keep abreast, you are going to be left behind.”
