Rosenbauer Gives Out Seat-Belt Covers to Stress Safety

To emphasize its commitment to safety, Rosenbauer gave away more than 12,000 bright red seatbelt wraps bearing the message "Everyone Goes Home" during the Fire Department Instructors’ Conference in April.

The bright red color of the seatbelt wraps was meant to act as a visual reminder to firefighters and company officers alike that seatbelts can help save firefighters' lives. The current NFPA 1901 apparatus standard requires red seatbelts, and the wraps allow departments to retrofit older apparatus with the same eye-catching color.

The idea came from Janet Wilmoth, editor of FIRE CHIEF, who originally proposed a fluorescent tape to upgrade older belts. When she discussed the idea with Harold Boer, president of Rosenbauer's Central Division, he came up with the belt wraps as a more durable solution.

For Boer, the idea had personal significance. "Safety doesn't belong to any one company, any one organization, or any one individual," he said. "It belongs to all of us. As a fire chief, the brother of a firefighter, and the father of firefighters, the goal of 'everyone goes home' has very real impact on me."
