Pierce Ultimate Configuration Changes Pumper Design

Pierce Manufacturing broke the mold on pumper design with a new configuration that provides more storage space and results in a vehicle that is easier to use, easier to service and easier to maneuver.

The Pierce Ultimate Configuration mounts the pump just above the frame rails with a direct drive off the rear of the engine. Pump-and-roll capability is standard. The intake and discharge connections are mounted low, with compartments and crosslays located above them. Service technicians can access the pump and plumbing by tilting the cab and removing the crosslay trays. To keep the operator clear of the charged hoselines, the pump panel is located on the driver's side in a compartment to the rear of the pump.

Because the pump requires less space, the body can provide up to 400 cubic feet of compartments in the most-popular mid-sized body length, or up to 500 cubic feet for the longest body configuration. A full-size "jump-off" compartment located to the rear of the cab on the officer's side is designed to hold EMS, rescue or other equipment, where the items can be easily reached and removed.

The PUC may be specified on Pierce Velocity, Impel, Quantum and Arrow XT models with wheelbases as short as 172 inches, depending on the chassis. The pump is available in ratings up to 1,500gpm and carries a six-year warranty. Water tanks up to 1,600 gallons are available.
