Pierce Delivers 7 to Compton

The order for Compton, Calif., includes five Pierce Arrow XT pumpers and an Arrow XT 105-foot aerial ladder, shown here before they made the trip west.

Pierce delivered seven new apparatus to the city of Compton, Calif., including five Arrow XT pumpers, one Arrow XT 105-foot aerial ladder and one Encore air/light support rescue vehicle. All seven apparatus were formally presented to the community in a dedication ceremony on Jan. 21.

"Our protection area is highly urban and covers the outskirts of Los Angeles, with 10 square miles and almost 100,000 citizens," said Compton Fire Chief Rico Smith. "These new Pierce vehicles will give us a very reliable and more responsive fleet of trucks to help our firefighters meet the fire and rescue challenges in our area."

The five Arrow XT pumpers are each equipped with a Detroit Diesel Series 60 455hp engine, Pierce TAK-4 independent front suspension, LED lighting, a 1,500gpm pump, stainless steel plumbing, a 500-gallon poly water tank, roll-up compartment doors and a Husky foam system.

The Arrow XT heavy-duty aerial ladder features a Detroit Diesel Series 60 515hp engine, Pierce TAK-4 independent front suspension, roll-up compartment doors, Harrison 10kw hydraulic generator and a 105-foot aerial device with AC power to the tip.

The air/light support rescue vehicle is built on an International chassis with a Pierce Encore rescue body. It features a 330hp engine, 40kw PTO generator, breathing air system, SCBA bottle storage racks and a Will-Burt light tower.

"Pierce is proud to provide Compton with an all-new front line of fire trucks," said Jeff Resch, vice president sales of Pierce Manufacturing. "The Arrow XT chassis is built specifically to handle the demands of an urban environment, so they're well-suited to the Compton area and the needs of the department."
