Bainbridge Island Shop Truck is an Oldie but Goodie

The shop truck for the Bainbridge Island (Wash.) Fire Department is a 28-year-old model now in its second life of service with the department.

The shop truck for the Bainbridge Island (Wash.) Fire Department is a 28-year-old model now in its second life of service with the department.

EVT Thom Ritter wrote to share some information on this classic truck. It was originally donated to the department in 1979 and was used to tow the department’s boat. When a larger boat was purchased in 2003, the truck was given to the shop. Ritter mounted a utility bed on the 4x4 chassis and installed a 40-gallon tank for diesel fuel to fill the emergency generators at two of the department’s stations, as well as refuel rigs in the field if necessary. The left-front compartment was modified to carry tools in custom-made aluminum drawers, and the rest of the compartments carry an assortment of spare parts, fluids and larger tools.

The truck currently has 52,000 miles on it and is still in excellent shape, as you can see from the photo.

Thanks to Ritter for sharing the information and photo of this great rig.

Every retirement is different, but I knew after I retired I was going to need something to keep me busy and it had to be something I enjoyed.
