Oklahoma Firefighters Hurt When Engine Rolls
Two firefighters in Oklahoma received minor injuries when an apparatus left the pavement and rolled on its side during an early morning rain storm.
The firefighters were responding to a report of an overturned automobile when the right front tire of the apparatus went off the edge of the roadway and onto the muddy shoulder. While attempting to bring the apparatus back onto the pavement, the driver lost control and the apparatus rolled onto its side. Both occupants managed to free themselves by kicking out the windshield.
When other firefighters arrived at the scene of the original reported accident, they found the auto to be unoccupied — the driver having walked home and left the vehicle. The engine, which was worth an estimated $185,000, was badly damaged and may have to be replaced.
