North Bergen Shop Truck Does It All
The North Bergen (N.J.) Department of Public Safety runs a new shop truck to handle repairs on fire, EMS, rescue and police vehicles, as well as to support neighboring fire departments.
North Bergen, N.J., specified a new 4x4 shop truck to keep a variety of public safety vehicles and equipment running in top condition.
The new truck is built on a GMC 5500 4x4 chassis with a 350-hp diesel engine and automatic transmission. It is equipped with a 100-gallon diesel fuel tank and dispensing pump, gasoline engine-driven air compressor, diesel engine-driven generator and 12-volt/24-volt heavy-duty jump start unit.
Additional tools and equipment include a complete toolbox, tire changing equipment, heavy-duty lifting jacks and assorted parts for emergency repairs. The truck is equipped with a power-lift gate at the rear and a reinforced push bumper at the front.
The North Bergen DPS fleet maintenance shop responds to all township vehicle or machinery breakdowns, and also provides maintenance support for apparatus and equipment operated by North Hudson Regional, Cliffside Park and Fairview. In addition to its normal duties, the truck is automatically dispatched to all fires greater than three alarm to provide stand-by support. Its compact size, powerful engine and all-wheel drive give it great maneuverability under tough operating conditions.
Congratulations to the North Bergen Department of Public Safety fleet maintenance shop on its new, and useful, truck.
