New Zealand Brigade Opens Up

Most fire apparatus in New Zealand have large compartments with lots of roll-up doors. If you've ever wondered what they carry behind those doors, there's a Web site that opens the compartments with the click of a cursor.

The Rolleston Fire Brigade in New Zealand protects a mix of residential and rural areas with several pumpers and tankers. The brigade has a colorful history and shares it all on its Web site.

The "Vehicles" portion of the site offers a candid evaluation of the apparatus that served the brigade, including some of the maintenance problems it has encountered with its older rigs. Firefighters worldwide should be able to relate to these tales of woe. Under the "Equipment" menu, viewers can click on any part of the brigade's current rigs and get a close-up image and detailed description of the equipment carried inside.
